genus: NEPTUNIDES J. Thomson 1879
species: polychrous J. Thomson 1879
origin: Tanzania
species: stanleyi Janson 1889
origin: Uganda, Budongo forrest lgt. Petr Malec 11/2006
wild imago size: 30-35mm
sexual dimorphism: males with trident shape horns
note: Beautiful beetles, occuring all over the tropical east Africa varying in many abberations and geographically devided subspecies. Breeding seems to be quite difficult, the main problem is oviposition. I`ve observed adults in wild habitat sitting on stalks feeding on the sap of Vernonia flowers.
